Summer Slide
In connection with St. Mary's School & the Lee Library Association

The documents to the right can be downloaded for easy printing. You will find ideas for math and reading activities that your child can do to prevent summer slide.
Encourage your child to complete one activity each day and make it a goal to complete the entire menu. To keep your child motivated, make it fun, keep it short, and give them a choice.
Reading and math activities do not always have to be completed at a desk. You can do it outside, in the car, or at the beach. See a movie - read the book. Read about dinosaurs - go to the museum. Let them stay up 10 minutes past their bedtime to read - discuss what they read in the morning!
Summer also brings an opportunity to play outside and get exercise in a
multitude of ways. Hiking, biking, swimming, and playing on the playground are fun ways to move your body and adds up to 60 minutes of exercise in no time! Fresh fruit salads and garden vegetables are great ways to make healthy food choices.
Use a log to help you and your child pay attention to academic and physical health. Each day we are asking that children eat nutritious food, exercise at least 60 minutes, read 20 minutes, and practice math.
The students who keep their logs will be recognized at our first school assembly in September. Also, when school begins, students who test at or above benchmark in math and reading will have their names put on our “Avoid the Summer Slide” showcase in the front lobby of our school.
