Middle School Graphic Arts
Middle School Graphic Arts exploratory is intended to give students an introduction to digital creative documents. Students will learn the basics of Microsoft Paint, Adobe Photoshop and will use classroom PCs, digital cameras, scanner, and printer to create their own original imagery.
The class will include periodic critiques of student work. Middle School Graphic Arts is a full year course one day a week.

|Name tag for Computer - use the digital camera, get a file from the shared drive, open in paint, crop, re size, add text, save file and put in the drop folder.|
Still Life - Using National Gallery of Art website create a still life composition, save it and copy it to the Drop folder.

|Portrait - Consider the famous portraits of National Gallery of Art, make sure you explore the eyes, nose and mouth under the Making faces section. Use Print Screen to save and turn in your work.|
Repetition - Using MS Paint create a document 8X10 Inches with a repeating pattern. (i.e. Shapes, Outline, Fill, Copy and Paste) Use this document as the background for your self portrait
Self Portrait - Use MS Paint to create a self portrait using custom colors, selection, copy, flip and drawing tools.
Landscape - Using The National Gallery of Art website PLACES create a graphic that uses size to create foreground, middle ground & background. Using print screen save the file in paint and put in drop folder.

|Pretest- What do you remember from 7th grade. Create a name tag for your computer - use the digital camera, get a file from the shared drive, open in paint, crop, resize, add text, save file and put in the drop folder.|

Photoshop Liquify Filter
After watching a demonstration of the liquify filter create a document that uses the filter. Include other items like text and images from the web to create an over all pleasing design.
Using Text & Layer Mask
For video help CLICK HERE but start 20sec into the video. Use Font Gills Sans Ultra Bold, on a 7X5 psd file (transparent). Text Layer> Image layer> CTRL click text thumbnail > Add layer mask. To finish the graphic you can add a color background if you like and offset the text layer for a back ground shadow. Use this graphic in publisher to create a card for your family.
